Final Site Report from Haphazard (RP from Ning)

I just received a phone call at 1:30 from Mike Putman (the guy that was driving the little wide-track dozer) to see if we got everyone out. I assured him that all bodies were out.

He told me that the rain started last night about 3am. It started raining HARD. It rained HARD all night. It rained HARD all morning. It's rained HARD all afternoon. It's raining HARD out there right now. He estimated they've had something like 8 to 11 inches so far.

He drove down 49 toward Avinger form Hughes Springs and took a look. He says that the water is at about the level of the headlights on the fire truck. Yes, you read that right, the level of the head lights on the fire truck. It's also up to the rail road tracks.

The 100% Evacuation call on Monday may have been a little heavy handed when it was made, but pulling cars out of a foot a mud is a lot easier than pulling them out of 3 feet of water.

Katie and I changed our minds and instead of trying to get out for food, then get back in for the night, then get back out again to come home in the morning, we just packed and got the hell out last night as well. I'm sitting here at my computer, dry, mostly clean, with a big cup of coffee, damn glad I'm not there right now.

Words cannot express the relief I have that every single body was off the property last night, no matter what it cost physically or financially to do it.

We'd like to thank everyone that was out there this weekend. As wet and muddy and sloppy and cold and just generally nasty as the weather was this weekend, you guys were "responsible for your own experience" and seemed to have a great time. I'm not sure that I actually heard anyone seriously complain the entire weekend. Katie is aglow from all the smiling faces, love, and friendly attitudes.

There's too many of you to thank individually, but there are a few I would like to point out specifically.

The LLC for making it happen,

All the Rangers and MEATS for keeping the event together.

All the Leads for doing what needed to be done.

Shadow and the Temple of the Steaming Pot. The gods know that we would not have made it if it hadn't been for you guys down there making your magick.

All the various people that fed us over the weekend. What can you say? Everyone wants ESEs meat in their mouth.

Speaking of which, ESE. When it came to exodus time, you threw down and became the man. You are a gentleman and a scholar, the envy of all men and the desire of all women.

Boarhead and crew for an ass-kicking FEG burn on Saturday night. (Damn it guys, aerials are supposed to go up!) :)

Demon Monk and crew for an ass-kicking FEG burn on Sunday night. (Bet it felt good to see that pile of ashes in the morning.)

All the people that kept slipping us cash to help offset the unexpected expenses.

Financially it was not the boost toward the shower houses that we hoped, but our hearts are full and life is good. We love all you freaks and if we had to bathe in mud with anyone, we were glad it was you.

Howdy folks,
I'll be flying to Dallas for Myschievia! Yay! Details for my flight and such are still a little uncertain but I hope to arrive on the 7th or 8th, depart on the evening of the 12th back to St. Louis.

As I'll be flying, I won't be able to bring much in the way of gear. Typically I'd be able to bring my light-weight tent I've flown with for BM, but I broke a pole on it a few months ago and have yet to get it repaired. Can anyone help provide me a place to call home for the event? Who wouldn't mind Tangle as a camp mate? I have references! ;o)

I hope you all have heard how wonderful Face paint night has become and how much each one of us can contribute and learn from it. last FPN we had over 30 people with 20 people painting it was so wonderful. a few people got a chance to be painted and spin fire while being photos graphed with incredible delays and flashes. ( Smashy this is a wonderful technique and look).

This will also be a chance for those that have made flowers to show them off to inspire others to get them completed for Myschevia ----which is only 52 days away!

The Katie Guild rules over this land and requests that you leave no trace of your existence on their land when you leave. Please pack out what you pack in....that includes your trash. Cigarette butts are TO NOT HIT THE GROUND. Please bring a tin, like an Altoids package, to place your butts in or use your back pocket. Show some respect for the land owners, the promoters, yourself and the Earth. Ins and outs will be allowed, but re-entry is solely permitted to those wearing wrist bands provided at the gate upon paid admittance. No wrist band...no re-entry, no exceptions....no excuses.

Workshops:
"Physical Embodiment for a Long Night"
This workshop will prepare your body and mind for a long night of dancing and exploration. We will draw on several different movement paradigms, including laban movement analysis, bartenieff fundamentals, clowning, mime, physical comedy, and your own personal experiences. We will build nonverbal communication skills, expressive movement ability, and grounding/centering movements. This course will take your dancing up to the next level and help you have the most fantastic night possible. Kinetic Monkey is a Certified Laban/Bartenieff Movement Analyst, Dancer, Clown, and a member of the Hofmann Drive, a psy-downtempo project in Austin, TX.

Green/Eco/Sustainable Living workshop provided by Chadman. More details to follow as this shall be an interactive/hands on workshop

Yoga led by Lydia Marolda

Vending:
Jewelry by Sadhana Earth Creations, organic soap by Home Grown Sudz - www.homegrownsudz.etsy.com, & organic soap, jam/jelly & crochet work by Ronnie. Tom Mimosa will be selling his unique soap made from mimosa hostilis root bark. It has medicinal properties and it great for skin irritations/ailments.

We are also encouraging all those who have hand drums to bring them out. We would like to have a community drum circle for the hour leading up to the start of the music on Saturday night.

A sanctuary will be provided for those who wish to get away for a little while and find their inner peace.

Cost:

$25 for both nights
$20 for Saturday night

The gates will open at 6PM Friday night, and close at 3AM Saturday morning. The gates will re-open at noon on Saturday, and close again at 3AM Sunday morning. Arrive early for the best camping spots.

Black male cat looking for home- PLEASE HELP!

A week ago a VERY sweet un-fixed male kitty, age appx 9-10 months, appeared in my back yard. He was wounded from a bite on his front paw and had some other minor old injuries- I've given him antibiotics (try giving shots to a cat!) and he's getting better, but so far efforts to find his home have failed. No one in my HOA has claimed ownership, and the signs I put up around my area resulted in no calls- in fact, most of them have been taken down! Bastards. I'd bitch about .gov now, but will save that for laters.

Anyway, the long and short of it is this is a sweet boy, but I have FIVE cats and even adding an outside kitty isn't really feasible. This is where you come in- please help me find him a good home! He'd be a great indoor/outdoor kitty, is a lover, and I've been calling him Shadow, but he will answer to anything. He's obviously been loved, and while he had no RFID chip or tag, he has a pretty blue collar with a bow.

I'd love to find his real home, but barring that, a loving home where I could come see him sometimes! I won't take him to anyplace where he'd be put down, but please help!!! If you have any ideas where or how to find his owners, my psychic powers are failing at the moment.

Truck hauling gear from Austin to the playa.

Hello all Texas burners! We have a 16 foot box truck that we are taking to BM. We would like to share space on this truck for people who need an inexpensive way to haul gear to the playa.

General Info:

-Space is first come first served.

-We will leave out of Austin on August 28th around but not before 3 PM but will except items to be hauled at our house for a week in advance (as long as they are items easily loaded onto the truck by two people).

-We will be at BM when the gates open.

-We camp at stag camp at 8:30 and fossil. Items on the truck can be picked up at that location (no personal delivery). You will need to unload your own gear.

-We will return on Sunday evening after the burn and plan on being in Austin on the 9th or 10th. Items can be picked up from our house in austin up to the 12th of September.

-Gas cost will be calculated using volume and weight. (We estimate most items will be 3-6 dollars per cubic foot. If we do not use all of the gas money it will be divided and returned to you.

-No explosive, flammable, or hazardous items. Sorry guys.

-No illicit substances.

-No perishable foods.

-We will fill water barrells up in Reno but prefer not to since this is a pain in my ass.

-All space will need to be reserved and paid for a week before departure. We will only except extra items on the 28th if there is room.

I'm not sure if you've heard about it, but this weekend is Creative Motion's spinfest event. It's a pretty cool skill-toy meet up, largely populated by insane circus folk and other performers. I'm not officially tied in with the group, but they are good friends and this is where I learned most of what I know about juggling.

This go around marks the first time SpinFest will be held at its new location, which is over at Heights Park in Richardson. I think it is a much better location than the original White Rock site, as it is larger and has better public facilities (read bathrooms and nearby businesses).

The group generally meets up around 3pm, and gets going until 8pm or so. Best bet is to get to the park, and head towards the people making glorious carny-fools of themselves.

Once the crowd breaks down, the usual tradition is to invade a locally-owned business to relax and eat. In Richardson, the options are both tasty and plentiful. I'm also up for a hookah after, since my favorite hookah bar is just around the corner.

Moving an event of any size is really hard to do. I think it would be great if people could spread the word around a little and help them get re-established at their new spot in the park.

I'm planning on being out there, and bringing a small horde of friends. I hope you'll join me and do the same.

It's about that time. Flipside is a couple weeks away. At this point,
people don't have much time left to make plans or ask off from work or
get plane tickets or anything else. Soon, everyone with a spare ticket
is going to start trying to sell it.

If you have a spare ticket, go to Bob's list now. Find someone who
looks like they would contribute to our collective experience and
contact them. If you wait another week, you'll be dangerously close to
the point where you're out 80 bucks and some poor soul is out the
experience just because you decided to slack.

I've been running Bob's list for about 6 years now, and every year
there's a flood of people at the end, overwhelming my mail server and
the few people who still actually want to go. Do yourself a favor, act
now. I got stuck with a ticket I couldn't find a buyer for a few years

OK folks, the time has almost arrived! If you haven't yet done so, now is the time to go register for your Flipside tickets and get your money order. There are only 8 days (Jan 20 - 27th) to get those postmarked. Don't miss it. Here's what you do:

So, for those of you(most of you) who dont know me; I am Ball_Z(as named by major tom(see moderator)). I am about to make the move up to the Dallas area and am looking for places to stay. Mainly i need something to hold me over till Aug/Sept of this year. I would certainly prefer a month to month arrangement. I have one cat who is amazingly lazy, super affectionate, and completely awesome. Everything else i would bring is just my personal living requirements. i can bring all my own furniture or none depending on the situation. I am a very laid back and easy going individual. I clean up after myself and appreciate the same. As for areas....I would prefer north east side(richardson, plano, garland, etc...), but am open to pretty much any location that is cool with having me.

If you, or anyone you know, has a room for rent please dont hesitate to let me know. I will gladly pass along info for better correspondence. Btw...i am not planning on moving until mid-late april or the beginning of may. And would prefer to be done moving by Flipside(i know i will see you all there).

DFW Burners Town Hall Meeting- Feb 1?

Happy New Year!

We need to have a Town Hall soon, as there is much to discuss. I'm proposing Sunday Feb 1 because:

On Jan 10 we're having an LLC meeting to vote in the new LLC members.

Jan 17-19 is out since a lot of people will be at FreezerBurn

I want to finish up all the financials/ tax stuff the weekend of the 25th, as our fiscal year ends on January 31. That way we can give y'all the full end-of-2008 report at Town Hall.

Also, what suggestions do we have for agenda items? So far I have:

1. End of Year Reports
2. Introduce new LLC members
3. What to do with the surplus money from Myschievia
4. Community Outreach ideas (both burn and non-burn communities)

If Feb 1 works for y'all, I'll add it here as an event. No clue yet on the location, that's up for discussion too.

URGENT: Ticket Registration for Flipside has begun!!

Somewhat unclear how it works, but it appears that you:
1) Register ASAP (they went live with ticket registration 2 days ago)- note that you will need to either use your previous Flipside login info or create a new account.
2) Send a fancy decorated envelope containing a Form and Money Order postmarked between Jan 20 & 27.
3) Cross yer digits and pray!!

You can order a max of 2 tickets, and you should use real names. You can also get added to volunteer lists, and I urge you all to not only SAY you'll volunteer, but actually DO IT!! FWIW I was ticket request #660-something as of 20 minutes ago, and they are selling 2468 tickets.

Feel free to contact me via phone or email if you have questions or need help- it's somewhat nebulous, but I'll do what I can!!

Adopt a Sweet Rottweiler Mix - FREE

One of my colleagues found a rottweiler/probably doberman mix dog about three weeks ago. They've tried in vain to find the owners. Best guess is the sweet lummox was abandoned by someone hitting hard times. He and his partner are looking for a good home for the approximately year-old pup. They can't bear to hand him over to a shelter since he might make it out.

"We found a Rottweiler in our alley a couple of weeks ago and are fostering him while trying to find a home. He is too big for us to keep and we have as many pets as we can handle right now. He is great dog… loves to fetch, go for walks and play. Gets along with other dogs and is very sweet."

They've spent hundreds getting "Rudy" checked out, neutered, vaccinated, chipped, and fully supplied. He's completely house broken and loves to be loved on. Submissive and calm even with smaller dogs. They even bought a crate for nighttime (to be fair to their other dogs). They aren't looking for a penny... just a good home.

Need some help in Dallas 11/29

Hey Dallas burners!

Brian and I are coming up to Dallas (well, technically Garland) to help my mother rebuild her backyard fence which fell down during one or two of the numerous windy storms that Dallas has seen over the last year or so. We need to get the whole thing finished the weekend of 11/29 because we won't be able to come up again for quite a while. We feel pretty confident that with some help for a few hours, we can get it done.

Can we reset Dallas Santa Rampage?

I haven't seen any posts (almost) anywhere as far as the alleged Dec. 13th date for Dallas Santa Rampage.
Austin is set up and listed all over every list, forum, santarchy.com for the 13th.
While backroom discussion has apparently taken place for a 13th Dallas date, can we move this around as to make both doable for Santa?
Is there any reason the 6th is bad?
What are your thoughts on the subject?

1. Bring your getting ready for the night clothes over about 7-8 or so.

2. Get dressed at the party. Makes for great fun.

3. Help others decide what to wear and what not to wear.

4. Go to Go Fetish ball en masse---for our entrance!

Nov 8 - Buy, trade or barter - Everything left in my house goes

Notice to one and all,
I am clearing out everything in my house and starting the fixing up process.
I am hoping for folks looking to barter time/ skills for stuff. For example there two TV's, 6' book shelves (probably 12-15), a vintage 1950's metal desk, comfy love seat, full set of bed room furniture, a few lamps, and more and more and more.

Things I need help with: some electrical, indoor painting, texture over wallpaper, replacement of in-counter stove, and misc fixes.

taboo update and party on halloween

went to go get dirt for buried alive. friend got stopped for traffic violation. had a couple of traffic warrants. went to a detention center at hall st. and chesnut. lewisville police came to get me at around 10am sunday. took one look at my face and let me go. came home. saw the disturbathon aftermath. went to the ER for my eye. it is confirmed it was disturbo funk from the build out. it is an envirmental allergic reaction with minor cellulitis infection. got an IV antibiotic. came home. going back in the morning for another IV dose then getting some pills.

since i missed disturbathon i will be having a party at my place next weekend. starts fri night goes till whenever. it will be pot luck bar, potluck food/bbq, and costume/clothing optional
