In Dallas, Meltdown will be held at the Lizard Lounge on October 25th, 2008! :-) I am going but was wondering if anyone else was going to go as well?

I'm thinking of going since it IS the 10th anniversary, and Moby is headlining...but gotta check finances considering that Thievery Corporation is playing House of Blues the next night, and I am NOT missing that show.

...geez, I'm so old school, I was at the first two Meltdowns!

Isn't this the same night as Disturbathon?

I went 2 years ago when Rabbit in th Moon headlined...

But they shut down at 2am - which, due to daylight savings time, became 1 am! Everyone was stunned. Only about a 45min set from them...

Damn, it sounds really good, but I'm still boycotting Lizard Lounge. Why oh why isn't there a venue that doesn't SUCK ASS that gets decent shows!?!?! Guess I need to make more trips to Austin...

We went to Meltdown a couple of years back when Carl Cox headlined and it was at the Palladium. It was a pretty good size venue and seemed pretty damn full of people. The LL just seems kinda small for the crowd we experienced at the Palladium. They should have it there again.

Tom, LL isn't so bad. Never had a bad experience there. Besides, if I'm at a concert all I care about is the music and hanging with my friends.

Yeah, Hugh, I'm utterly cognizant of my lameness here- maybe I'm officially "too old"!! Consideration and true Customer Service no longer exist in any form I recognize, that's for sure- and I think we're all getting used to being treated poorly, so there's no incentive to improve...

I know me and my dollars won't be missed, but my only recourse- other than just grin and bear it- is to vote with my feet. I'm not even trying to convince ya'll to boycott, which might actually have some limited, temporary effect- I just don't care to give someone money to treat me poorly, or part with my limited funds for a low-quality service. Yeah, I'm a whiny little biotch, I know!! :)

Anyway, amigo, I personally go to shows for a good experience, and of late, I haven't had many. Maybe I'm expecting too much (or, again, am just too old), but listening to dance music and not having room to dance, getting screwed by bad bartenders (without even a reach-around!) and having to scream over music to communicate with my friends all get my panties in a twist!!

Gack- sorry, don't mean to get all negative- I'll zip it now. Thanks for listening, and I'll try to get over it, cuz I really do love seeing you guys out on the town!! Have fun at the show and ignore me.

            Respectfully and Kvetchingly,
Major Whiner, I mean Major Tom :)

UUUGH SHITE!!!! I want to go but like time I am boycotting the LL... the las three shows (Tom and I were at my last one there) all SUCKED ASS and it was cause of the venue, I truely believe.

Addendum: If they are having the event OUTSIDE at the Lizard Lounge, I might consider it- there would actually be room to DANCE that way, even with LL's notorious (and likely illegal from a fire-hazard perspective) overselling of the venue. My first Infected Mushroom show was there outside and it was excellent. And I encourage folks to either NOT buy drinks, sneak in flasks, or go with a bartender you know- still pissed about the 4 "Cape Cods" I bought with no vodka... I know they're like one of the only remaining venues in town, but their blatant "don't-give-a-shit" makes me want to flush my money rather than give it to them.

      Holding-a-Grudgingly,
      Major Tom

hey... i saw Tom at Infected Mushroom...ahhh memories. I am def going to go see Thievery!! No Meltdown, however, I am sure Moby would be pretty amazing to see live. I am pretty married to Disturbathon..at least as an after party.. We will see what my favorite weekend before my favorite holiday goes.

Seems to me this will be an indoors show since they are selling balcony vip tix.

Thievery Corporation? Hmm...Houston or Dallas..or both?

My experience with meltdown was that the big stage was outside next to the LL, but there were other jocks spinning inside, as well as at another club right around the way (can't remember the name, it was a bit of a blur, go figure)...but the walk was fenced the whole way, but we had to cross a street enroute and they checked our wristbands at the entrance to the other venue.

Lots and lots o' folks, but a fairly adolescent crowd.

Or maybe I am just getting old.

I recall seeing Paul Oakenfold there a few years back (2-3) and it was an outdoor show. They were also selling VIP tickets which let you watch the show from the balcony on top of the building so one can hope that they would let the show be outside.

Man, I can't tolerate the lizard lounge either, for most of the same reasons tom listed. But I haven't even been there since i was 21 so I have yet to experience the suckiness of their bartenders. Perhaps I should go and find out!

Just like all venues, LL sells to the occupancy set by the fire department. It is stated behind the cashier. They'd be crazy not to sell to this max.

You talk about no vodka in your drinks; this happens to me from any bartender whether at a club or restaurant. Thus, I go with beer and am happy with my choice. If you want to spike your own drink, then ask the bartenders for a "designed driver soft drink." They'll probably give it to you for free; otherwise, the soft drink is the same cost as a beer at LL.

You want to dance at LL? Then don't go to a special event. Go on Thursday or Sunday night; you can have 100 sq feet all to yourself. Again, no different than any other venue.

These are reasons to be upset with LL:
Because you were promised a free drink with your VIP ticket and didn't get one.
Because you were promised exclusive access with your VIP ticket to the deck and everyone else was up there too.
Because they revoked your life time membership and didn't give you a pro-rated refund on your current life expectancy.

        Rob
