The blazer is getting more expensive to maintain than it is worth. Cursory look on Carmax confirms that Diesels are hard to come by and not so cheap, and that prices are really arbitrary and high...
Need to commute 10 miles during the week, hit far away regionals with half of the contents of my house once per quarter. Open to smaller vehicles that can tow 2k lbs for the green compromise if there is such a thing.
The news tells me used SUV prices should be caving in imploding... So no trade in value, but I could get one in better shape for what it would cost to fix up the one I have.
I have never had to buy my own vehicle... But research informs me that I should get my financing done elsewhere like my credit union and not let the sharks push any more paper on me than is necessary. This requires knowing what amount I need to finance in the first place... But I could walk in, and pay basically cash for the whole thing and owe someone else money that will give me a better deal all around.
Alternative is, get a compact commuter car, and try to get the blazer back in shape for doing only burn trips... I can find an insurance company to cover the SUV per trip/month, and cover my commute car year round...
I'd still like a diesel truck to convert to diesel/veggie... but that is looking expensive and difficult right now...
I you have my e-mail, hit me there cause I'm bad at checking my tribe inbox...

Tue, June 3, 2008 - 10:32 PMI heartedly recommend the place I've gotten mine and my sister's cars at. Good prices, nice ppl, and cheep on the repair bill.. they'll even work in your repairs into your car payment if needed. Let me know if you're interested and I'll send you the info.

Re: Anyone a used car ninja?
Wed, June 4, 2008 - 6:27 AMI got my 2006 Kia Sportage in January for about 14K and it is fully loaded, with a 2.3 L V-6. I get about 22 mpg commuting back on forth to work in stop and go traffic (about 12 miles both ways), and I was hitting 25-26 mpg going to Flipside. Not sure if it could tow 2K though. I guess I'll find out about that when I have a trailer hitch put on in a couple of months. For me it's a good compromise of size and gas mileage.
